You hear many people announce that Christmas only comes once a year. I am very thankful for this fact. Who wants to have to decorate their house every week in preparation for another Christmas party? Yeah, I am certainly glad that Christmas only comes once a year, that way my husband isn’t up on the roof trying to tie down Frosty every 7 days. Worse yet, we could leave all of our Christmas decorations out all year round.
The Joy Of Decorating For Christmas
Ok, so maybe I sounded a little bitter in the previous paragraph. I apologize for my less than Christmas spirit. I truly do love getting to ravage the shelves of my local Wal-Mart right after Halloween to get the best deals on Christmas decorations long before Thanksgiving even pops up on the holiday radar. Decorating for Christmas is a family affair; everyone casting off the cares of the world to fill their houses with cheery little statues, Nativity figurines, tinsel, bells, lights, holly, incense, trees, doves, and any other manner of Christmas animals. Who wouldn’t want to pull the boxes of Christmas decorations down from the attic, go bulb-by-bulb replacing the lights that are broken, dusting off the statues of Santa Claus, untangling the rows and rows of garland and curly tinsel? I know that all of this sounds tedious and seriously frustrating; it is still a family tradition that is looked forward to every year. Not because of the work involved, but because the kids know that when the Christmas decoration boxes come down from the attic, Christmas is that much closer. Their little faces light up and their smiles brighten in the anticipation of the coming holiday.
The Joy Of The Holiday
Despite all of the work that goes into the Christmas decorations, present buying and wrapping, cutting down the Christmas tree, and creating a Christmas feast with all the fixin’s, there is a magic about Christmas that makes almost everyone enjoy every bit of the preparations that go into it. Having to decorate the whole house is a daunting task, but it is one that I heartily enjoy. Getting to spend time with my kids and my husband without the worries of the day is a nice change.
Every time I hang a silver bell, a piece of tinsel, or another long row of garland I am reminded that Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. All the greens, and reds, and golds create a feeling of timelessness that cannot be recreated by any other holiday. Hanging the mistletoe is another Christmas decoration I heartily enjoy. My husband and I make sure to get good use out of it every Christmas season.
I hope that, while decorating your home for Christmas, you take the time to enjoy the season. Remember, it only comes once a year!
